Minister Yerlikaya announces traffic toll for Eid al-Adha holiday

At the end of the 9-day Eid al-Adha holiday, during which we witnessed accidents that resulted in the loss of many of our citizens' lives and left thousands injured, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya shared the traffic statistics for the holiday period in a press conference.

In a post on his social media account, Yerlikaya stated the following:

We held our press conference regarding our traffic statistics for the 9-day Eid al-Adha holiday.

During the previous 9-day Eid al-Fitr holiday, 11 million 236 thousand 983 vehicles used our highways.

During this Eid al-Adha holiday, vehicle mobility increased by 87.5% and reached 21 million 67 thousand 377.

During these 9 days, when a total of 66 thousand 92 of our personnel were on duty, 3 million 687 thousand 894 vehicles were inspected.

Action was taken against 519 thousand 242 vehicles.

During the holiday, 7 thousand 216 accidents involving death and injury occurred.

Unfortunately, in these accidents:

72 of our citizens lost their lives,

12 thousand 274 of our citizens were injured.

I pray for God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives in traffic accidents and wish a speedy recovery to our injured.

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to all our citizens who followed traffic rules during this holiday, who did not race against life, and who made the end of the road a celebration.

I would like to thank my colleagues who worked with great sacrifice during the holiday, even though they were away from their families and loved ones.

Roads exist to reunite us with our loved ones, not to separate us. Please, let us strictly follow traffic rules.
