Minister Yumaklı defends stray animal regulation: 'Our government is determined on this issue'
Making a statement regarding the legislative proposal known in the public as the 'euthanasia' law, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı said, "Our government is determined on this issue, our Parliament is doing what is necessary, and this matter will be resolved."
Appearing as a guest on the Anadolu Agency (AA) Editor's Desk, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made statements regarding the legislative proposal that would pave the way for the culling of animals.
Stating that "Our government is determined on this issue" regarding the legislative proposal accepted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs Commission, Yumaklı said, "Our Parliament is doing what is necessary, and this matter, which victimizes people from every segment of society, will be resolved."
Yumaklı also reported that a prison sentence of 6 months to 2 years is foreseen for municipalities that do not comply with the regulation prepared by the government.
Yumaklı's statements are summarized as follows:
"Everyone now accepts that social life is being negatively affected due to the increase in this population. Our fundamental perspective is the elimination of issues affecting social life and adoption. Subsequently, sterilization and rehabilitation for population control.
Our government is determined on this issue, our Parliament is doing what is necessary, and this matter, which victimizes people from every segment of society, will be resolved. We have never had a thought such as 'They will take them and kill them all.' The issue we are proposing is adoption."
FOREST FIRES
Minister Yumaklı argued that the claims that burned forest areas are being opened for zoning are 'absolutely false' and that the Ministry is 'bringing these areas together with saplings.'
"We have placed an order with TUSAŞ for 8 firefighting helicopters with a capacity of approximately 5 tons. Hopefully, deliveries will begin from 2028 onwards," said Yumaklı, adding, "We have 25 thousand colleagues; we do not see them as too many. Like our security forces, they disregard their own lives to protect the green homeland."
Minister Yumaklı stated that 90 percent of forest fires are human-caused, occurring due to reasons such as field burning, discarding cigarette butts, and barbecuing.
