Ministries spent millions on 'advertising' while students face a housing crisis
The 2024 representation and promotion expenditures of ministries have reached 8 million TL. While the Ministry of Youth and Sports' spending doubled compared to the previous year, the Ministry of Environment also incurred millions in promotional costs. These expenditures, made while students struggle with a housing crisis, have drawn criticism.
In 2024, the expenditures made by ministries for promotion and representation drew attention. It was revealed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports spent 6.4 million TL on this item, while the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change spent 1.1 million TL.
According to a report by Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün, while the total expenditure of the two ministries approached 8 million TL, this figure sparked debate, especially in the shadow of the housing crisis in higher education.
At a time when hygiene and security issues in state dormitories are on the agenda, it was recorded that the Ministry of Youth and Sports made exactly 6 million 476 thousand 597 TL in representation and promotion expenditures in 2024. This figure was nearly double the ministry's 3 million 679 thousand 565 TL expenditure in 2023.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, which has been criticized regarding the creation of earthquake-resistant, eco-friendly cities, also carried out 1 million 193 thousand 746 TL in representation and promotion expenditures.
