Ministry allocates 3,250 staff positions to IMM following earthquake

Following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Istanbul on April 23, a working group was formed under the chairmanship of Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum to evaluate new measures planned for implementation in the city. This group held its first meeting recently.

According to a report by T24, the meeting was attended by Minister Kurum, ministry officials, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan, and all district mayors in Istanbul. During the discussions, it was decided to establish a "Urban Transformation Commission" for the urban renewal process planned to be initiated across Istanbul.

At the meeting, CHP mayors voiced various issues they have been experiencing with the ministry. One of the topics brought to the agenda was the staff shortage highlighted during audits conducted by Ministry of Interior inspectors at the IMM.

KURUM: SEND YOUR REQUESTS, I WILL SIGN THEM

IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan brought up the staffing obstacle encountered in personnel recruitment. Some district mayors conveyed the difficulties they faced regarding the appointment of private secretaries to Minister Kurum.

In response to these requests, Minister Kurum replied, "send your requests, I will sign them."

The fact that the requests did not receive a response for a long time despite official correspondence between the IMM and the ministry during this process was also included in the inspector reports. Following these developments, the ministry approved the staff allocation for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

According to information obtained from ministry sources, a total of 3,250 staff positions were transferred to the IMM. The largest portion of these positions was allocated to the Fire Department with 1,785 recruitments.

Additionally, positions were opened for the recruitment of 665 personnel for the Municipal Police Department, 150 civil servants for IETT, 100 civil servants for ISKI, and 550 new civil servants to be assigned to various municipal units.
