Ministry announces: Fine for employer who fired Polonez workers

Ministry announces: Fine for employer who fired Polonez workers

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security has announced that a fine has been imposed on the employer at the Polonez factory operating in Çatalca, Istanbul, regarding the dismissal of 145 workers who were fired for participating in union organizing efforts.

According to the statement made by the Ministry, the Guidance and Inspection Presidency affiliated with the Ministry prepared an inspection report regarding the dismissal of 13 workers who were fired for participating in union organizing at the Polonez factory, as well as 132 workers who protested against the dismissal of these colleagues.

As a result of the investigations, it was decided to impose an administrative fine of 8 thousand 590 liras per person, totaling 1 million 211 thousand 190 liras, on the employer for 141 workers whose employment contracts were determined to have been terminated due to anti-union pressure at the workplace.

Furthermore, it was requested that an administrative fine of 5 thousand 506 liras per person, totaling 798 thousand 370 liras, be imposed because the employer carried out mass layoffs for 145 workers without notifying the Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR).

CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FILED WITH THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

The statement also noted that a criminal complaint has been filed with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the employer for unlawfully obstructing union activities at the workplace by firing union-member workers.
