Ministry ignores court ruling: Kanal Istanbul plans approved!

Gökan Zeybek, CHP Deputy Chairman responsible for Local Governments and Resilient Cities, reacted to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization's approval of the 'Kanal Istanbul' plans.

In a written statement, Gökan Zeybek said, "The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization has re-approved and suspended the Kanal Istanbul plans that the court had cancelled."

Reacting by saying, "The project of betrayal against Istanbul is being attempted to be revived by the ministry despite court rulings," Zeybek provided the following information: "The zoning and implementation plans for the Boyalı and Baklalı neighborhoods of the Arnavutköy district and certain parts of the Yenişehir reserve building area, which are part of the betrayal project called Kanal Istanbul that will inflict an irreversible wound on Istanbul's geography, texture, and ecological balance, have been redrawn and suspended."

"PROJECT OF BETRAYAL"

Zeybek continued his statement as follows: "However, the plans prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change had been cancelled by a court ruling on the grounds that they were contrary to legislation and laws. Those who betray Istanbul want to stab another project of betrayal into the heart of this city with the goal of rent and plunder. It should not be forgotten that the people of Istanbul will not allow this project, which will deeply wound water basins, pasture and agricultural lands, forests, and the treasury budget."

"PLANS MUST BE CANCELLED"

Calling for the cancellation of the plans, Zeybek stated the following:

"These plans, whose non-compliance with legislation has been proven by a court ruling, must be cancelled immediately; the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, who is obligated to protect the greenery and geography, must take his hands off Istanbul's greenery and nature. The minister, who is famous for opening green areas to zoning, parcel-based plan applications, and rent-oriented zoning decisions, appears to be continuing to be stubborn with the people of Istanbul to implement the Kanal Istanbul project that will massacre Istanbul."
