Ministry of Family and Social Services files complaint with RTÜK against Emmy-winning series Yargı: 'It deeply disturbs the conscience of society'
The Ministry of Family and Social Services has filed a complaint with RTÜK against the series 'Yargı', broadcast on Kanal D, on the grounds that it could negatively affect care institutions and the psychological development of children residing in them.
The Ministry of Family and Social Services has taken action regarding the Yargı series, broadcast on Kanal D and starring Pınar Deniz and Kaan Urgancıoğlu.
The Ministry stated that in this week's episode of the series titled "Yargı," a plot was featured containing the allegation that "children growing up in child care institutions affiliated with the Ministry are being abused, and that personnel working in these institutions are members of an organized crime group and are paving the way for the abuse of children."
The Ministry took action based on the argument that the aforementioned allegation could harm the psychological well-being of children residing in care institutions, which provide services based on scientific data while observing national and moral values within the framework of the best interests of the child.
While the Ministry filed a complaint with the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) regarding the relevant episode of the series, it emphasized in the petition the importance of not causing secondary trauma to children under protection in content prepared regarding topics and events covered in series, and of approaching the Ministry's service policies and models with sensitivity.
"IT DEEPLY DISTURBS THE CONSCIENCE OF SOCIETY"
Stating that the Ministry of Family and Social Services defends children's rights in all media as part of its work carried out in line with the principle of the best interests of the child, the petition included the statement: "Such situations, which create public outrage through negative broadcasts regarding our Ministry's services and our children, deeply disturb the conscience of society."
Ministry officials, who stated that they will initiate legal processes regarding all kinds of content that will harm the social integration of children and create a negative perception about them, underlined that they are striving for children to become healthy adults who can stand on their own two feet.
