Ministry of Health claims 'infant deaths could not have been prevented' in Newborn Gang case!

A critical development has occurred in the Newborn Gang case. A report prepared by the Ministry of Health stated that the deaths of four out of five infants were unavoidable. The report has been added to the case file.

A study report regarding the Newborn Gang was prepared by the Infant Mortality Review Board under the Ministry of Health.

According to the report by Osman Çaklı from Gazete Duvar; the aforementioned board under the ministry used the phrase 'Could not be determined' regarding the cause of death for only baby Havanur.

During the trial process, it was revealed that the report dated July 8, 2024, prepared by the Forensic Medicine Specialized Board, was not included in the indictment prepared on October 28. The Forensic Medicine report had claimed that there was no medical malpractice in the death of baby Havanur Karakoç and that she died due to damage in her intestines. Defense attorneys had reacted to the fact that this report was not included in the indictment, while the Ministry of Health Inspection Board report, which showed the defendants as faulty, was included. Following the contradiction between reports in the trial, a new report has been added to the file.

According to the Infant Mortality Review Board Working Report under the Ministry of Health, the death of baby Öykü was unavoidable. The same expressions are used in the report regarding another baby mentioned in the investigation, Tokluoğlu. In the report, which states that the deaths of baby Kaya, baby Karaduman, and baby Melek were also unavoidable, an opinion of 'could not be determined' was formed only regarding Havanur Karakoç.

The Infant Mortality Review Board evaluates all infant deaths occurring in provinces and districts and prepares reports. The report is recorded with three options: “Preventable, unavoidable, could not be determined.”

It is believed that this report, prepared by the board and added to the file, will be influential in the course of the trial.
