Ministry of National Defense announces: 16 terror targets struck in northern Iraq

The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) announced that air operations were conducted against terrorist targets in the Metina, Gara, Hakurk, and Asos regions in northern Iraq, which were identified in coordination with the National Intelligence Organization (MİT). The operations destroyed 16 targets, including caves, bunkers, shelters, and warehouses used by the separatist terrorist organization, which were assessed to contain terrorists at the leadership level.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of National Defense, it was announced that 16 targets were destroyed within the framework of air operations carried out in northern Iraq. Regarding the operation, which was conducted in coordination with MİT to neutralize terror attacks against Turkey originating from northern Iraq and to ensure border security, the MSB statement included the following:

“In line with our right to self-defense arising from Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, air operations were conducted on December 29 at 17:30 against terrorist targets in the Metina, Gara, Hakurk, and Asos regions of northern Iraq, identified in coordination with MİT, with the aim of neutralizing the PKK/KCK and other terrorist elements, eliminating terror attacks against our people and security forces from northern Iraq, and ensuring our border security. Through these air operations, 16 targets, including caves, bunkers, shelters, and warehouses used by the separatist terrorist organization (BTÖ) and assessed to contain terrorists at the leadership level, were destroyed.

In the operations conducted, a large number of terrorists were neutralized using a maximum amount of domestic and national ammunition.

The Turkish Armed Forces, which emerged from the heart of our noble nation, will continue the fight against terrorism with determination and resolve until not a single terrorist remains, for the survival and security of our country and nation, just as it has in the past. During these operations, every measure was taken to ensure that innocent civilians, friendly elements, historical and cultural assets, and the environment were not harmed.”
