Ministry of National Defense responds to Dendias for calling Turkish soldiers 'occupiers'

The Ministry of National Defense has responded to Greek Defense Minister Dendias' use of the term "occupier" in reference to Turkish soldiers.

'THE TURKISH SOLDIER WILL REMAIN THE GUARANTOR OF PEACE AND TRANQUILITY'

The following statement was made via X:

"We strongly condemn the low-level, false, and slanderous statement by Greek Defense Minister Dendias targeting Turkish Cypriots and the heroic Turkish army.

The heroic Turkish army acted in accordance with Turkey's right of guarantee stemming from international agreements and saved the Turkish Cypriot people, who had been subjected to all kinds of persecution by the Greek side between 1963 and 1974, from an attempt at genocide.

Thanks to the courage and presence of the Turkish soldier, no blood has been shed in Cyprus since 1974, the junta's pressure by Greece on the Greek Cypriot people has been eliminated, and the collapse of the military regime in Greece has made a return to democracy possible.

The Turkish soldier, as in the past and today, will continue to be the guarantor of peace and tranquility in Cyprus tomorrow.

We call on the Greek Defense Minister to cease his attempts to undermine the common stance put forward by the leaders of the two countries, which aims to advance relations between Turkey and Greece with a constructive approach.

Mr. Dendias' efforts to build a political career by sowing discord between the Turkish and Greek peoples will not yield results."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Greek Defense Minister Dendias had expressed his 'deepest respect and patriotic gratitude' to the EOKA Greek terrorists of the 60s and 70s and once again labeled the Turkish military as an 'occupier' in Cyprus.
