Ministry of National Defense issues statement on 'Syrian military student served in TAF' report
The Ministry of National Defense has announced that it is out of the question for Syrian military students receiving training in Turkey under the signed 'Memorandum of Understanding on Joint Training and Consultancy' to serve in the Turkish Armed Forces.
The Ministry of National Defense has published a rebuttal regarding a report featured in a newspaper today titled "They dismissed lieutenants, they took in Syrians."
In the rebuttal text published by the Ministry, it was stated: "In the November 4, 2025 issue of Sözcü newspaper, a report titled 'They dismissed lieutenants, they took in Syrians' was published.
In summary, the report claims that Syrians have been structured into the TAF to replace personnel whose ties to the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) were severed.
Our Ministry and the TAF sign agreements with many countries covering training and consultancy activities, and within the scope of these agreements, military students receive training in our country and return to their own countries. Syrian military students are also receiving training in our country within the scope of the signed 'Memorandum of Understanding on Joint Training and Consultancy'.
It is out of the question for military students receiving training to serve in the TAF. It is evident that the report, which was served by deliberately distorting our Ministry's statements, is aimed at discrediting our Ministry and the TAF in the eyes of the public, creating a negative perception, and misleading the public," the statement read.
