Ministry of National Education announces the removal of the exam hour practice

The Ministry of National Education (MEB) has issued a circular titled 'Work and Procedures Regarding the 2024-2025 Academic Year'. The circular announced that the 2024-2025 academic year will begin on Monday, September 9, 2024.

The circular also noted that teachers' requests for transfers based on excuses or personal preference will be processed during August, and that the transfer process for administrators and teachers will be completed by the start of the academic year.

"NO REGISTRATION FEES WILL BE COLLECTED"

The circular stated that no mandatory registration fees or charges under any other name will be collected during student enrollment for the new academic year, using the following language: "No mandatory registration fees or charges under any other name will be collected during student enrollment; complaints regarding such practices will be evaluated immediately by the Governorates, and the necessary actions will be taken."

"PARENTS WILL BE REGULARLY INFORMED"

Emphasizing that one of the Ministry's priorities in the new academic year will be to increase the contribution of families to students' academic and social development processes, the circular stated: "Parents are the most important stakeholders who know their children, closely monitor their interests, needs, and personality traits, support teachers and school administration, and contribute to the improvement of the education process through school-family cooperation. In this context, our parents will be informed continuously and regularly through digital parent bulletins about the activities our Ministry will implement in the new term and the work carried out at schools. Starting with the family school initiatives launched by the General Directorate of Lifelong Learning, video and digital content on EBA that emphasizes the importance of parents and family environments in education will be utilized during activities such as school openings and parent meetings."

According to the circular, practices not included in the legislation, such as 'class mothers' and similar titles, will not be permitted in educational institutions.

EXAM HOUR PRACTICE IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS ABOLISHED

The circular, which provided information that the exam hour practice in primary schools has been abolished, included the following statements:

"No exams consisting of multiple-choice questions, such as short-term readiness tests, screening tests, etc., will be administered to students. Instead of a result-oriented measurement and evaluation approach, process-oriented measurement and evaluation practices will be adopted to continuously monitor students' social and academic development, and assessment tools appropriate to the content of the lesson will be used for this purpose. In order to monitor students throughout the process, feedback will be provided regarding their incomplete and/or incorrect learning, and learning/teaching processes will be managed accordingly."
