The Ministry of Trade has launched an investigation into food critic and sociologist Vedat Milor, who visited the Üsküdar Kent Lokantası, operated by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, and published the footage on his YouTube account.
Following a complaint filed via CİMER, a written explanation was requested from Milor on March 3, 2025, within the scope of the "Covert Advertising" ban under the Consumer Protection Law.
Ministry of Trade Press Advisor Fatih Uysan made a statement on the matter via his social media account. The statement included the following:
"In a CİMER application dated February 10, 2025, it was alleged that covert advertising for the business named 'Kent Lokantası,' which operates under the 'Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality,' was conducted in the video titled '4-course meal for 40 Lira: Is this price real?' published on Vedat Milor's YouTube channel on January 4, 2025.
Covert advertising is prohibited under Article 61 of the Law on the Protection of Consumers No. 6502, and a Ministry letter requesting a written explanation from Vedat Milor regarding the claim in question was sent on March 3, 2025. Upon receipt of the response, the file will be reviewed and decided upon by the Advertising Board. Respectfully announced to the public."
