Ministry statement regarding tomatoes dumped in the trash

In a written statement released on the ministry's social media account, it was stated: "Our Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Trade inspection teams conducted an inspection on August 26, 2025, at the relevant market business operating in Ataşehir regarding the footage of 'tomatoes being dumped in the trash along with their crates' circulating on social media; as a result of the inspection, it was determined that the products seen in the footage were being sold as 'Tomatoes for Sauce/Paste' which were still on sale on the shelves. 

Upon examination of the company's records, it was determined that 20 thousand 897 kilograms of tomatoes had entered the business between August 22 and August 26, that 1 thousand 700 kilograms of this amount were destroyed by the company because they had lost their saleability, and that the reports and invoices regarding the destruction process were submitted to our inspection teams.

As the Ministry of Trade, we would like to bring to the attention of the public that we continue our inspections without interruption to protect consumer rights and ensure food safety, and that we are determined not to allow any unfair or irregular commercial activity," the statement read.
