Warning from the Ministry to those making weekend plans: Snow, blizzard, flood

The Ministry of Interior has issued a 'yellow' coded meteorological warning for 38 provinces due to heavy rain and snowfall expected to be effective over the weekend. According to the map shared by the Ministry, heavy snow is expected at altitudes above 1600 meters, while thunderstorms are expected in the south.

Sharing Turkey's weekend weather map on the Ministry's social media X account, it was stated: "We strongly remind our citizens to be careful and cautious against negative conditions such as disruptions in transportation, floods, water inundation, landslides, lightning, strong winds during precipitation, icing and frost at high altitudes, blizzards, and avalanches in sloped areas with high snow cover; and to take the warnings of authorized bodies into account."

PROVINCES UNDER WARNING

In the statement, it was noted that intermittent and local heavy precipitation will be effective tomorrow (Saturday, April 11) and Sunday (Sunday, April 12) in the southern surroundings of Erzincan, Bayburt, and Gümüşhane, the east of Bingöl, Erzurum, Muş, Bitlis, the north of Diyarbakır, Siirt, the north of Batman, the west of Van, and Şırnak.

It was stated that the precipitation is expected to be in the form of heavy snowfall at altitudes above 1600 meters and, after tomorrow evening, in Erzurum, Bitlis, and Ardahan.

MGM WEATHER FORECAST

According to the latest assessments made by the MGM, it is predicted that the country will be very cloudy, with intermittent precipitation expected in the northern coasts of Marmara, the Eastern Mediterranean, Central Anatolia (except Konya and Karaman), the Black Sea, Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia, as well as the surroundings of Sakarya, Bursa, Bilecik, Kütahya, Afyonkarahisar, and the northern districts of Balıkesir.

The precipitation, which will generally be in the form of rain and showers, occasionally thunderstorms in Southeastern Anatolia, and sleet and snow in the inner and eastern parts, is expected to be locally heavy in the east of the Eastern Mediterranean, the Eastern Black Sea, and the surroundings of Ordu, Erzurum, Bingöl, Muş, Bitlis, Şırnak, Hakkari, and Siirt.

While the wind is expected to blow strongly (40-60 km/h) from the south and southwest in the east of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia, it was reported that there is a risk of icing and frost in the inner and eastern parts, and a danger of avalanches and snowmelt in sloped areas with high snow cover in the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia.

WHAT WILL THE AIR TEMPERATURE AND WIND BE LIKE?

Air temperatures are expected to remain below seasonal norms across the country.

The wind is expected to blow generally from the south and southwest, and from northerly directions in Marmara and over time in the western parts, light to occasionally moderate, and strongly (40-60 km/h) in the east of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia.

WARNINGS FOR THE WHOLE COUNTRY
