The prisoner swap operation coordinated by the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) has gone down in history as the largest swap carried out since the Second World War.

In the operation conducted in Ankara, 26 people were brought to Turkey via a total of seven aircraft, including two from the US and one each from Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Norway, and Russia.

According to the details of the operation, in the process that began early on the morning of August 1, after the first plane arrived from Slovenia, planes from Poland, Norway, Russia, Germany, and the US landed at Esenboğa Airport. The operation began at 16:05, and the safety of the 26 individuals was prioritized.

Within the scope of the operation, 10 hostages, including two children, were transferred to Russia, 13 hostages to Germany, and 3 hostages to the US. MIT controlled every step of the process, overcoming disagreements and demands with fair and constructive solutions.

MIT TOOK SECURITY MEASURES

MIT met with the parties frequently during the operation process and took the necessary security measures. Disagreements between the parties were resolved through MIT's cool-headed diplomacy. At the end of the operation, 10 people heading to Russia, 3 people heading to the US, and 13 people heading to Germany were transferred to the planes. The operation was successfully completed with the departure of the three planes from the runway.

POST-OPERATION CALL BETWEEN ERDOĞAN AND BIDEN

Following the operation, a phone call was held between President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US President Joe Biden. Biden thanked Erdoğan for his efforts in ensuring the swap took place without any issues. Additionally, a statement from Russia thanked all countries that assisted in the operation managed by MIT.
