MIT data leaked

Striking details have emerged in the investigation into the leak of critical information belonging to National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and Ministry of National Defense (MSB) personnel.

According to a report by BirGün, the indictment accepted by the Ankara 28th High Criminal Court states that this information was obtained through illegal means under the direction of an individual who posed as a Counter-Terrorism (TEM) officer.

According to the indictment, an individual named E.S., who used the alias "Kanakan," contacted a suspect named M.E. via a chat group on an illegal website where personal data is shared. According to information in the BirGün newspaper, E.S. introduced himself as a police officer working at the Çanakkale TEM Branch and requested that M.E. find clients for whom he could perform GBT (General Information Gathering) and HTS (Line Traffic Inquiry) checks.

ADDRESSES OF MIT HOUSING WERE ALSO REQUESTED

In his statement included in the indictment, M.E. said that he believed E.S. was a real police officer due to the photos of a police vest and what appeared to be an official ID that E.S. had sent. Following this trust, E.S., using the alias "Kanakan," sent M.E. the exact address of an MIT housing complex and continued to request similar information. M.E. stated that he reached a large amount of personnel information by using data obtained from previous inquiries.

DATA SOLD ON DIGITAL PLATFORMS

According to information obtained during the investigation, the leaked data was uploaded to digital platforms where personal information is sold. This data includes not only identity and housing information belonging to MIT and MSB personnel, but also education, school, bank, and address information belonging to a large number of civilian citizens.

While a wide-ranging investigation into the incident is ongoing, it is believed that a large number of people, including the fake TEM officer, organized to seize and disseminate personal data.
