MIT steps in: Colonel who wrote FETO article had been promoted to general

MIT steps in: Colonel who wrote FETO article had been promoted to general

Within the scope of the Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) decisions, 77 colonels were promoted to the rank of general and admiral.

It has emerged that Judge Colonel Fevzi Orkunt Canyaş, who was promoted to brigadier general, co-authored an article in 2015 with Filiz Başkan Canyaş, a faculty member at the Izmir University of Economics Department of Political Science and International Relations, titled "Interaction between formal and informal institutions in Turkey: The case of the Fethullah Gülen community."

In the article in question, it was observed that Canyaş used laudatory expressions regarding the FETO ringleader and his schools.

The promotion of Canyaş, who conducted 'academic' work for Fethullah Gülen, to the rank of brigadier general and the fact that no action has been taken against him to date have sparked reactions.

MIT TO LAUNCH INVESTIGATION INTO CANYAŞ

Journalist Fuat Uğur, known for his proximity to the government, wrote in his column on tv100 that the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) will step in and launch an investigation into Fevzi Orkunt Canyaş.

Stating, "I will share the information I received from within the TSK (Turkish Armed Forces)," Uğur wrote the following regarding why Canyaş had not been on the agenda within the TSK until now:

"Because the TSK no longer has an internal intelligence organization. Actions are taken ACCORDING TO INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM THE NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE ORGANIZATION MIT. No intelligence information, document, or report regarding this Colonel has been forwarded to the TSK."

Pointing out that Canyaş is a Judge Colonel, Uğur stated, "He may have made decisions about many FETO members while on duty. It is an important characteristic of FETO members that they strike those who were seen side-by-side with them in the past but later turned against them, using their photos from that time or the 'traces' they left behind. This blackmail method is familiar. We may be experiencing the same thing again. We must remain within the framework of the law."

In the continuation of his article, Uğur included the following statements:

"But isn't this information still important? Of course, it is very important. Now that this name and issue have become a topic of discussion, THE PROCESS WILL BE RE-RUN from the beginning regarding Judge Colonel Fevzi Orkunt Canyaş, who was promoted to brigadier general, and the necessary investigation will be launched.

So, will his name be reported to MIT, is that it? Yes, as always, and as a legal requirement, MIT will conduct the investigation. Actions will be taken according to the result that emerges.

That is the situation."
