Mobbing suspected in Chief Inspector's suicide: Statement from the Governor's Office

Following the suicide of Chief Inspector Mehmet Cengiz, who was serving at the Hakkâri Provincial Police Department, on February 12, judicial and administrative investigations were launched. While allegations of mobbing surfaced following Cengiz's death, the Hakkâri Governor's Office issued a statement regarding the incident.
After a gunshot was heard at the Hakkâri Provincial Police Department building on the evening of February 12, teams arriving at the scene found Chief Inspector Cengiz wounded. Following initial intervention by medical teams, Cengiz was taken to Hakkari State Hospital but could not be saved despite all efforts. As a result of the investigations, it was determined that Cengiz's death was a suicide. His body was sent to the Kadışehri district of Yozgat after the procedures were completed.
MOBBING ALLEGATIONS
Following Cengiz's death, allegations emerged that the Chief Inspector, whose duty station had been changed some time ago, had been subjected to mobbing. According to a report by Birgün, Cengiz's close circle stated that he had been subjected to psychological pressure following the change in his duty station and that this may have paved the way for his death.

The Hakkâri Governor's Office issued a written statement regarding the death of Mehmet Cengiz. The Governor's Office statement indicated that an inspector had been assigned by the Ministry of Interior and that an investigation had also been initiated by judicial authorities. The statement emphasized that the incident would be meticulously investigated in every aspect.
