Moments of panic on Ankara-Izmir flight: Fire breaks out in aircraft cabin at Esenboğa

Safety protocols were activated on a Pegasus Airlines aircraft after smoke began emitting from a passenger's portable charger.

Due to the incident, the aircraft was stopped on the taxiway, and all passengers in the cabin were evacuated.

INCIDENT OCCURRED AS AIRCRAFT TAXIED TO RUNWAY

According to the information obtained, the Pegasus Airlines aircraft, which was set to perform the Ankara-Izmir flight, began moving for takeoff after completing passenger boarding at Ankara Esenboğa Airport.

While the aircraft was taxiing toward the runway, it was detected that a portable charger belonging to one of the passengers had begun to emit smoke.

PILOT CONTACTED THE TOWER

After the situation was noticed, the aircraft's pilot contacted the Esenboğa Air Traffic Control Tower to report the incident.

For security reasons, the aircraft was stopped on the taxiway and necessary precautions were taken.

PASSENGERS EVACUATED

Following the incident, the passengers on board were evacuated in accordance with safety procedures.

Initial assessments by authorities indicated that no injuries occurred as a result of the incident.

Following the event, safety rules regarding portable chargers have come to the fore once again.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM) had previously announced in a statement that charging portable chargers on aircraft is prohibited due to risks that could jeopardize flight safety.

PROCEDURES FOR THE FLIGHT INITIATED

It was learned that teams have begun work to conduct necessary checks on the aircraft, which was stopped due to smoke originating from a power bank.
