The heavy downpour that affected Istanbul last week caused flooding in the Ayazağa neighborhood of Sarıyer. A 20-year-old clothing store in the neighborhood was rendered unusable due to floodwaters that filled the premises in a short time.
It was stated that the water level rose to 1 meter and 70 centimeters in the approximately 600-square-meter store. While most of the products, stands, and equipment inside remained under mud and water, it was reported that the employees managed to get out at the last moment.
The moments when the floodwaters filled the store were also reflected on security cameras. In the footage, it was seen that two employees in the workplace tried to get out due to the rapidly rising water.
Store owner Kenan Sümer said that the water suddenly entered the shop with a large mass coming from the creek side. Sümer said, "When it came quickly, the employees barely managed to get themselves out. This is a 600-square-meter shop. There is water about 1.70 meters high."
Stating that their estimated damage is 6-7 million liras, Sümer indicated that they will try to rebuild the store. Thanking the teams and volunteers for their support, Sümer said that they want to continue providing service if state support is provided.
