Montreux reminder to Turkey from the Russian Embassy: It serves the interests of all countries and states

Last week, the Ministry of National Defense announced that work had begun in 2023 to establish a "Corps Headquarters" within the scope of the "NATO Southeastern Regional Plan," and that this intention was declared to NATO in 2024.

While claims that "a NATO base is being established on the Bosphorus" continue to circulate, particularly on social media, a notable statement regarding the Montreux Convention was issued from the Russian Embassy's social media account.

The statement included the following expressions:

"In response to questions received by our Embassy regarding the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits, we would like to state the following.

Russia attaches great importance to the Montreux Convention and firmly supports its implementation by all parties involved in international relations.

We believe that the Convention serves the interests of all countries and states, especially during this dramatic period caused by recent events in the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

In this context, we appreciate Turkey's balanced and responsible stance."
