Mother of imprisoned Buğra Gökce cries out for justice

Şeyma Gökce, the mother of IPA President Buğra Gökce, who is currently imprisoned as part of the investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, spoke about what they have been going through since March 23.

Responding to questions from Sözcü TV, Şeyma Gökce said that the 9 months spent apart from her son have turned into a heavy wait for her.

Living in İzmir and suffering from heart and blood pressure conditions, mother Gökce stated that she still cannot forget the day her son was taken into custody and expressed her feelings with these words:

“A fire fell upon us that day. We went there crying. It has now been exactly 9 months. Today is the 270th day. The days are very dark, very sad, and pass with great distress.”

Explaining that she underwent bypass surgery during this process, mother Gökce stated that she reads the book written by her son in prison and relives the pain of what is written in those lines every day. She conveyed her longing for her son and the breakdown in her sense of justice with these words:

“I read it while crying. The things that happen there, the loneliness, the hardships... He makes Russian salad, he makes jam. I miss him so much. Is it not a shame? Mayors, many bureaucrats, well-educated good people are inside, but all kinds of drug-using, immoral people walk around freely outside. What kind of justice is this? I had a neighbor in my house in Ankara: Adalet Hanım (Ms. Justice). Justice is not here. Justice is now nowhere for anyone. Justice has remained only as my neighbor's name.”

Şeyma Gökce was also asked, “What is the first thing you will do when your son is released?” Mother Gökce shared her dream for the day the longing ends with these words:

“I will cook the meals he loves. He always wants menemen in the mornings. If he comes, I want to make him menemen, olive oil dishes. Everything. Everything he loves.”
