MSB statement on Eurofighter: Flight training to begin in the UK in August

The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) provided information regarding the ongoing efforts related to the Eurofighter Typhoon procurement process. The Ministry announced that it is planned for flight personnel to be sent to the United Kingdom in August 2026 to begin flight training shortly thereafter.

In the MSB statement, it was noted that under the signed contract, flight and maintenance personnel will continue to be sent to the United Kingdom according to a multi-year schedule.

The Ministry also reported that administrative and judicial investigations into the death of Air Force Academy student Veli Bilgin are ongoing. Emphasizing that the incident is being examined in all its aspects, the statement noted that the forensic medicine report is awaited to determine the exact cause of death.

The MSB stated that respect should be shown for the grief of Bilgin's family and requested that social media posts and assessments based on assumptions outside of official statements should not be given credence.

In the Ministry's weekly briefing, it was also announced that 466 people, including one member of a terrorist organization, who were trying to cross borders illegally in the last week were apprehended, and 946 people were prevented from crossing the border. During the same period, it was reported that 6 PKK terrorists surrendered.

It was stated that the number of people apprehended while trying to cross borders illegally since January 1 has reached 6,485, and the number of people prevented from crossing has reached 42,776.
