Mukhtar election dispute turns into a battlefield in Şanlıurfa!

In the Harran district of Şanlıurfa, 4 people, including the neighborhood mukhtar, have been detained in connection with a fight between two groups regarding the mukhtar election process that resulted in 1 death and 2 injuries.

In the Ortakonacık neighborhood yesterday, Ali Kiraz, H.K., and T.D. were wounded by gunfire during a fight between two groups over the mukhtar election process; Kiraz, who was taken to the hospital, could not be saved despite medical intervention.

In a statement issued by the Şanlıurfa Governor's Office, it was stated that the process is being closely monitored, and the following was noted:

"As a result of an armed fight that occurred between two groups in the Ortakonacık neighborhood of the Harran district regarding the mukhtar election process, 3 people were injured and taken under treatment in hospitals in Şanlıurfa. One of the injured, A.K., passed away at the hospital where he was taken, while the lives of the injured individuals named H.K. and T.D. remain in danger. The neighborhood mukhtar M.K. and other suspects A.K., H.K., and H.D., who are considered to be the perpetrators of the incident, have been apprehended and detained by the gendarmerie."

The statement, which noted that extensive security measures have been taken in the neighborhood, included the following expression: "It is of great importance that all parties operating in the field, especially in the mukhtar elections, act with sensitivity during this process, in which our security units are making great efforts with meticulousness to ensure that the local government elections in our province are carried out in an environment of peace."
