Journalist Murat Ağırel announced that he has been summoned to testify by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Ağırel stated that the summons was made by phone, but he has not yet been informed of the scope of the investigation or the capacity in which he will be testifying.
In a post on his social media account, Ağırel announced that he will go to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on August 31. He noted that he will inform the public after the testimony procedures are completed.
"I was called by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office by phone today. I have been invited to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to give a statement tomorrow. I have not yet been informed in what capacity I have been summoned to testify. I will inform the public after I obtain the necessary information and the testimony procedures are completed tomorrow."
Ağırel had previously brought allegations regarding the Gökçek family's investments in Germany to the agenda during a broadcast on Onlar TV. The report claimed that Melih Gökçek and his family purchased a building with 16-18 apartments for 220 million liras in Düsseldorf, Germany, through a holding company that reportedly had no employees or turnover.
Following these broadcasts, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that an ex officio investigation had been launched into allegations that İbrahim Melih Gökçek had transferred unregistered funds to companies abroad. The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the investigation was launched for the purpose of "revealing the material truth."
