It has been learned that Murat Gülibrahimoğlu, who was wanted as a fugitive defendant in the corruption case involving the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), has been captured in Greece. It was reported that Gülibrahimoğlu, who had been a fugitive for approximately 1.5 years, was captured on October 2 and is being held under surveillance.
The Istanbul 33rd High Criminal Court has submitted a request for Gülibrahimoğlu's extradition to Turkey. An arrest warrant had previously been issued for Gülibrahimoğlu.
In the case file, Gülibrahimoğlu faces charges of "membership in a criminal organization," "concealing the illicit source of assets," and "violation of the Tax Procedure Law." It was stated that it had been determined that Gülibrahimoğlu had fled to London in March 2025.
Gülibrahimoğlu is also accused of generating approximately 180 billion liras in illicit gains by facilitating illegal dumping at the Cebeci Excavation Site.
The trial regarding the IMM case is ongoing. The 95th hearing of the case was held in Silivri. While there are 436 defendants in the case, 53 of whom are in custody, the testimonies of 323 defendants tried without arrest have been completed to date, including the defenses presented at the last hearing. It was stated that 63 defendants have been released so far in the case.
