Striking assessment from Murat Karayalçın: We can escape the trap set for the CHP by holding onto each other

Stating that the solution to the crisis following the absolute nullity ruling lies in intra-party solidarity and a party congress, Karayalçın assessed, "A trap has been set for us. We can escape this trap through solidarity, by holding onto each other."

Karayalçın included the following statements in his post:

"A very major trap has been set for the Republican People's Party. This latest event, namely the Regional Court of Justice's ruling of absolute nullity on May 21, is the final step of this trap. We are experiencing other tremors and negative consequences brought about by this final step. The rights of our Chairman Özgür Özel and the administrators of the Republican People's Party have been usurped.

Republican People's Party members have been pushed into a trap, into a pit. Unfortunately, the efforts and initiatives of our friends to seek our rights are not yielding results. The judicial bodies that should be deciding on this, the high judicial bodies, are unfortunately not making decisions; they are staying away and throwing the matter onto someone else.

There cannot be such a state administration. The President says, 'This is not our business, this is the business of the CHP members.' The Speaker of the Parliament says the same, 'It is the CHP members' own problem.' In other words, we are in such an environment that neither judicial bodies nor state administrators are showing interest or making efforts regarding our situation, regarding our usurped rights. The task has fallen to us.

Now, as Republican People's Party members, I say this without making any distinctions; we must solve this, we will solve this. The solution to this matter is a party congress. There is no other way. In all political parties, wherever there is democracy, decisions are made by the members. The decision made by the members or the decision made by the delegates is valid, not court rulings.

Now, the appointed administration has some assessments, I understand that too. Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu speaks of a purification. Of course, if there is something that needs to be purified, it should be purified, and that should be brought to light. Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu says, 'First purification, first accountability must be demanded, there must be purification, then a congress should be held.' Now, if there is something to be purified, it should be brought to light.

I do not believe that the Republican People's Party is in a state of filth, but if there are such individuals within the party, Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu should provide his information and documents on this matter to the judiciary. That process should proceed on one hand, and a congress should be held on the other; both must happen together. In other words, one cannot say, 'I will demand accountability first, I will purify first, then we will hold a congress.'

The assessments that a congress cannot be held are not correct assessments. That is, it is said, 'An injunction was issued, therefore we cannot make a decision for a congress.' Mr. Zeynel Emre, our Party Spokesperson, explained this. Mr. Zeynel Emre says; the Istanbul Provincial Congress was held despite the injunction.

The Supreme Election Council did this. In the same way, we can do this now, we can do it despite the injunction. There is no obstacle here. But if you believe that this is an obstacle, then withdraw the application so that we can finalize this. Therefore, there would be no injunction either. Let us go to a congress immediately.

There is a view that Mr. Zeynel Emre added, which I also consider important. If a congress cannot be held by July 25, I believe, there is a possibility that the Republican People's Party may not be able to enter the elections. For this reason, we must hold the congress urgently. Ultimately, there is nothing we need to hide from each other. We are CHP members, we are brothers and sisters.

I am not making a distinction between those who are at the headquarters and those who are not. We must come together, we must solve this ourselves. A trap has been set for us. We can escape this trap through solidarity, by holding onto each other. I am saying this to everyone. I request that everyone think about this. As a former chairman, as a party member, as a Republican People's Party member, I believe this is how our way out will be."
