Murat Ongun's lawyer detained

Serkan Günel, the lawyer for IMM Medya A.Ş. Board Chairman Murat Ongun, who was arrested on corruption charges as part of the operations launched against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), has been detained.

Günel announced his detention in a post on his X account.

I am currently being detained in the process where I started as the defense counsel for Murat Ongun in the operation against the IMM!
The defense cannot be silenced!
The truth will come out sooner or later!

Stating, "I am currently being detained in the process where I started as the defense counsel for Murat Ongun in the operation against the IMM!", Günel added, "The defense cannot be silenced! The truth will come out sooner or later!"

Mehmet Pehlivan, the lawyer for IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, reacted to the detention of his colleague.

"Our colleagues, Attorney Serkan Günel and Attorney Kazım Yiğit Akalın, were detained this morning.

Targeting the defense is an attack on the heart of justice. The detention of lawyers is not law, but a clear act of lawlessness.

Practicing law is not a crime, it is a duty!"
