Murat Yetkin evaluates Erdoğan's remarks on the Constitutional Court: 'It will have a political impact on the judiciary'
In his article for Yetkinreport, journalist Murat Yetkin stated that President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his remarks to journalists upon returning from Uzbekistan, made his firm stance clear by saying that the Constitutional Court (AYM) has "started to make many mistakes one after another."
Journalist Murat Yetkin evaluated the remarks made by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to journalists on the plane upon his return from Uzbekistan.
Yetkin stated the following in his assessment:
"Stating that the government is trying to neutralize the Constitutional Court, Yetkin said, 'It is possible to end the Constitutional Court's function as a high court without closing it, for example, through the method of changing it via resignations. Especially after this move by Erdoğan, it would not surprise anyone if some of the 9 Constitutional Court members, who were the subject of a criminal complaint by the Court of Cassation for voting for Atalay's release, were to resign. It is also a fact that new judges would be appointed to replace those who resign, both by the President and through the votes of the AK Party and MHP in Parliament. Furthermore, even if no resignations occur, this move by Erdoğan will have a political impact on the judiciary.'"
