Murdered for refusing a sexual advance: Rümeysa's killer arrested
In the Gölcük district of Kocaeli, one of the 5 people detained in connection with the death of 18-year-old Rümeysa Meriç Özcan, whose lifeless body was found with a rope tied around her neck under an overturned pickup truck, has been arrested.
The incident occurred on Sunday night on the old Halıdere village road in the Gölcük district of Kocaeli. Upon receiving a report that a pickup truck had fallen into a ravine, police and medical teams arrived at the scene and discovered the lifeless body of 18-year-old Rümeysa Meriç Özcan with a rope tied around her neck under the vehicle.
Police teams, who launched an investigation into the incident, detained men identified as T.A. (22), E.K. (20), and Y.A. (20), as well as women identified as C.Ç. (20) and K.N. (17).
According to statements given at the police station, it was learned that they had been drinking alcohol together and that T.A. had taken Özcan to a desolate area in the pickup truck; he wanted to have sexual intercourse, but Özcan refused. It was stated that T.A. tied a rope around Özcan's neck to scare her, attached the other end of the rope to the pickup truck, and assaulted her.
HE PANICKED
It was revealed that Rümeysa fainted during this time, and T.A., thinking the young woman had died, took action to dispose of the body, and as a result of him releasing the pickup truck's handbrake, the vehicle fell into a ravine approximately 100 meters deep.
ARRESTED
Following the completion of procedures at the police station, the 5 suspects were referred to the Gölcük Courthouse, where T.A. was arrested, while E.K., Y.A., C.Ç., and K.N. were released by the prosecutor's office.
