Müsavat Dervişoğlu explains the reason for İmamoğlu's potential arrest: 'He would have won if he had been a candidate'

Dervişoğlu answered questions from Serap Belovacıklı, Özlem Gürses, and Senem Toluay Ilgaz, moderated by İpek Özbey, on a live broadcast on SÖZCÜ TV.

Müsavat Dervişoğlu said the following during the live broadcast:

'THEY ARE TAKING REVENGE FOR THE TREATY OF SÈVRES'

"Because of this process, Turkey will face a very great disaster in the long term. Imperialism is taking revenge for the Treaty of Sèvres through this process."

'A UNIFYING DISCOURSE IS NEEDED'

"It is a great shame to say that 'they do not want a Turkey without terrorism' in Turkey, regardless of political divisions, and I say this for my generation. I am saying this for the revolutionaries of that era as well as for the nationalists. Instead of profiting from these divisions, we need to develop a unifying discourse."

"IT WILL BE A DISASTER FOR TURKEY IN THE LONG RUN"

"Anything can happen here, but I would never agree with the hesitation that 'a state mind is planning this.' The Republic of Turkey is a state founded on the remnants of two empires. It is impossible to define a process that will be a disaster for Turkey in the long run as 'state mind.' There is a concept of tutelage that has been discussed since this country was founded. The Republic is 100 years old, and a government that cannot make peace with the state it governs has been in power for about 25 years. Therefore, this government has managed 25 years of our 100-year-old Republic. There is a situation within this period that it has never been able to make peace with."

HE SPOKE ABOUT THE POTENTIAL ARREST OF İMAMOĞLU

"The 'process without terrorism,' the updated process, is being carried out for constitutional amendments and, consequently, for Erdoğan to be a candidate. The constitutional amendment essentially contains regulations that would allow Erdoğan to be a candidate for one more term. If İmamoğlu and Yavaş had been candidates in 2023, they would have won. The only reason for the current talk of arresting İmamoğlu is that he is a candidate."
