Mustafa Şentop files complaint against Ruşen Gültekin

Journalist Serdar Akinan, in a live broadcast on his YouTube channel on April 4, 2023, had alleged that the then-Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mustafa Şentop, was the owner and honorary president of the International Balkan University, and that the children of some AKP members had received diplomas from the university's law faculty without actually attending.

Akinan, who also claimed that the International Balkan University had been granted equivalency from Turkey, further alleged that the placements of those graduating from the institution were already predetermined.

"I AM DEFINITELY WAITING FOR AN ANSWER TO THESE ALLEGATIONS"

Lawyer Ruşen Gültekin, who shared the video containing Serdar Akinan's allegations by quoting it on his Twitter / X account, used the phrase "I am definitely waiting for an answer to these allegations."

FILED A COMPLAINT

Claiming that the video was shared and disseminated by FETÖ-linked accounts, Mustafa Şentop applied to the prosecutor's office on the grounds of 'insulting a public official' and filed a complaint against both the journalist who produced the report, Serdar Akinan, and those who shared it.

In Şentop's petition, it was stated, "The suspects' aim is not to inform the public. The listing of so many slanders against my client, who holds the office of Speaker of the TBMM, without any research, cannot be evaluated within the limits of freedom of expression."

REMINDED OF FETÖ MEMBERS DISMISSED FROM THE PROFESSION

Giving his statement at the Şişli District Police Department on September 28, 2023, following Şentop's complaint, Lawyer Ruşen Gültekin recalled that FETÖ members had filled 95 percent of the Administrative Judiciary by using coded cheating in judge and prosecutor exams between 2003 and 2016, and that these judges and prosecutors were dismissed from their professions after the bloody coup attempt on July 15, 2016.

Stating that he had been exiled multiple times and subjected to unfair investigations during his time as a judge, Gültekin explained the reason for sharing the report by saying, "When I made this post, my goal was not to complain, but to warn my approximately 100,000 followers, knowing that there were students educated in Turkish universities in this manner in the past, and by doing so, to warn State officials that such an action would cause FETÖ to revive."

Refuting the accusations against him, Gültekin requested a 'Decision of Non-Prosecution' (KYOK) at the end of his statement.

ALLEGATIONS HAD BEEN BROUGHT TO PARLIAMENT

The then-İYİ Party İzmir Deputy and Chief Advisor to the Chairman, Aytun Çıray, had brought the allegations regarding the International Balkan University in Skopje, which is alleged to be owned and honorary-presided over by Mustafa Şentop, to the Parliament's agenda.

In a statement made by the TBMM Speaker's Press Office, it was noted, "Speaker of the TBMM Mr. Mustafa Şentop has no connection to the aforementioned university other than the moral support he has provided."
