Striking statement from Mustafa Varank regarding the MP who died at the podium: 'Why should our conscience ache?'

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) debated the issue of the Ministry of Trade's restrictions on trade with Israel yesterday (Tuesday, April 16). Speaking on behalf of the IYI Party, Tekirdağ MP Selcan Hamşıoğlu brought up the Ministry of Trade's decision to limit trade with Israel, questioning whether the trade that was taking place while an MP lost his life at the podium was acceptable.

Reminding that Hasan Bitmez passed away from a heart attack, Hamşıoğlu stated that the ministry admitted to the trade that day, which had previously been denied.

Among the responses from the AKP group, figures including former Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank and all other AKP members who responded to Hamşıoğlu argued that Hasan Bitmez died because "his time had come," reacting with comments such as, "Why should our conscience ache?" and "Did we kill him?"
