Naci Görür lashes out at 'causing public anxiety' comments

Following the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, Prof. Dr. Naci Görür, who has been issuing warnings about a potential Istanbul earthquake, reacted to the criticism directed at him for "causing public anxiety."

Sharing on his X (Twitter) account, Görür stated, "I made this last post in January 2023, that is, before the earthquake. Now some people are asking why I am causing public anxiety by talking about earthquakes. What kind of mindset is this?"

In his second post, Görür noted the following:

"A short time after this conversation I had with Aslı Şafak in January 2023, more than 50 thousand of our people died. Are you not ashamed to use the phrase 'scaring the public'?"

In the warning he recalled, Görür had said:

"When we wake up tomorrow, hundreds or thousands of our people might be dead. As a nation, we have reached a point where we are waiting for death anywhere. 'This is no joke. The word earthquake is unpleasant, let's not talk about it, we are scared...' One should be afraid of being destroyed when the earthquake actually happens. We cannot be indifferent to this. When the earthquake we expect in Istanbul occurs, the lives of our people will be in danger on a scale we cannot even imagine."
