Nagehan Alçı reacts to appointment of trustee to CHP with 'I am worried': Hüsnü Bozkurt recalls her 'maarif takvimi' remarks
Turkey is debating the developments following the appointment of a trustee to the Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul Provincial Presidency. While the intervention, which took place with thousands of police officers, is being evaluated as a 'suspension of democracy,' journalist Nagehan Alçı, one of the prominent figures in the pro-government media, also shared her views on the process.
In a statement on her social media account, Alçı said, "The country is spiraling out of control; I am very worried and unhappy." However, this post drew intense backlash due to her controversial remarks in the past.
Atatürkist Thought Association (ADD) Chairman Hüsnü Bozkurt responded to Alçı with harsh words. Bozkurt stated, "You didn't spare much effort in bringing us to these days; now go and pose for a 'maarif takvimi' (educational calendar)."
The post that Bozkurt recalled referred to a tweet Alçı made years ago, which drew massive backlash from all segments of society.
In that post, Alçı had said, "The wives and girlfriends of our soldiers should also pose for a 'maarif takvimi' for the veterans in the Southeast."
As debates on democracy and law have returned to the agenda with the appointment of the trustee, Alçı's statements and Bozkurt's reaction have become one of the most discussed topics of the day on social media.
