Namık Tan reminds US Ambassador Barrack of 'martyr's blood': Borders were drawn with great sacrifice
CHP Istanbul MP Namık Tan reacted to a social media post by US Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack regarding Turkey, Iraq, and Syria. Stating, "These borders were drawn with the blood of countless martyrs and great sacrifices," Tan invited Barrack to better understand the history of the country where he serves.
US Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack stated in a social media post that Iraq, Syria, and Turkey hold strategic importance for the lasting stability of the Middle East, adding, "Balancing these three countries requires a single, coherent focus for America in terms of engagement and leverage."
Quoting Barrack's post, Namık Tan made the following statement on his social media account:
"I would like to remind you that the citizens of the Republic of Turkey are deeply committed to protecting their country's national sovereignty.
Concepts such as national sovereignty, the nation-state, and the founding principles of a secular republic may not be sufficiently appreciated by the Ambassador.
Furthermore, he may be a stranger to the history of these lands and the proud people who defended them at great cost.
Nevertheless, he should know that the borders of this country are not the product of an arbitrary imagination or political fantasy.
These borders were drawn with the blood of countless martyrs and great sacrifices.
Therefore, I hope the Ambassador will take the time to better understand the history of the country where he serves and show the respect that the Republic of Turkey and its citizens rightfully deserve."
