In the trial regarding the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, 12 defendants—6 of whom are in custody—and 3 children dragged into crime appeared in court for the third time. The imprisoned defendants were brought to the courthouse in prison vehicles under extensive security measures.

The public prosecutor, in the opinion submitted on April 29, requested that the defendants be sentenced to prison terms ranging from 6 months to 5 years each for the crime of "aiding and abetting a criminal." The trial, in which many people including family members are being prosecuted as part of the investigation launched following Narin Güran's disappearance in 2024, continues at the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance. Additionally, the separate legal process in which the mother, brother, and uncle are being tried with a request for aggravated life imprisonment is also ongoing.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

The investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the murder of Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21, 2024, in Tavşantepe Neighborhood of the central Bağlar district and whose lifeless body was found in Eğertutmaz Creek on September 8, 2024, had been completed for 12 people—6 of whom are in custody—and 3 children dragged into crime. The indictment prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requesting prison sentences of 6 months to 5 years each for 12 people for the crime of "aiding and abetting a criminal" was accepted by the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance, while the indictment prepared for the same crime regarding the children R.A. (16), M.G. (16), and I.K. (17) was accepted by the 2nd Juvenile Court.

The request by the Diyarbakır 2nd Juvenile Court to merge the file in their possession with the case opened against the 12 defendants, 6 of whom are in custody, at the Diyarbakır 17th Criminal Court of First Instance had been accepted.

The investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into mother Yüksel, brother Enes, uncle Salim Güran, and Nevzat Bahtiyar had been completed, and the indictment prepared for the 4 defendants requesting aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing of a child in complicity" was accepted by the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court on October 23, 2024.

The trial of the defendants began on November 7, 2024, and in the hearing on December 28, 2024, the court panel ruled for aggravated life imprisonment for the imprisoned defendants Yüksel, Enes, and Salim Güran for the crime of "intentional killing of a child in complicity," and a 4-year and 6-month prison sentence for Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to hiding Narin's lifeless body in Eğertutmaz Creek, for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering criminal evidence," and decided that their detention should continue.
