National Criminal Bureau report on Narin murder released: Important details shared

In the trial regarding the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, where 4 detained defendants are being tried with a request for aggravated life imprisonment, the examination of the footage sent to the "National Criminal Bureau" has been completed.

In an interim decision taken by the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court, it was decided to have an expert examination conducted on the footage belonging to the Daran-2 area, which was added to the case file.

After the expert from the National Criminal Bureau who came to Diyarbakır was duly sworn in, the footage of the area was delivered via a flash drive.

The expert report prepared by the National Criminal Bureau regarding the footage examined for the case has been completed and sent to the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court.

The report, which also includes photographs taken from the footage, states that as a result of the examination of the security camera footage of the school in Tavşantepe Neighborhood, "According to the camera time, Narin Güran was in the frame at 15.14, she was seen waving at other girls at 15.15 and walking on the path, and after this moment, Narin was not seen in the camera angle, with the last moment of being seen on the school camera being 15.15.14 (hour/minute/second)," and added the following:

"It is evaluated that a moving shadow moving towards the house-barn direction 1.5 minutes after the last sighting on the school camera (current) could be Narin Güran due to the dark color of the clothing elements and the perception of being short and thin, and the discretion is left to the authority."

The report added to the case file included findings regarding the issues the court requested the institution to investigate.

Regarding the court's request: "Since it is known that Narin headed towards the path where her own house is located after being seen on the school camera, it is requested to investigate whether she went to Arif Güran's house or barn, or whether she went towards the house of the defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar located on the path, or whether defendant Bahtiyar met Narin on the path; considering that it is understood that Narin was wearing black clothes in her last image reflected on the school camera, it is requested to carefully examine whether a girl in black clothes can be detected, and also to evaluate the time between 15.10 and 15.30," the report included the following information as a result of the examination:

"Since it is possible to define the clothing characteristics during the time she was in the frame while about to use the path, and considering the reasonable time she spent on the road using the path, it is evaluated that Narin Güran was approaching the barn-house area in the area seen between 15.18.49 and 15.18.50 (hour/minute/second) and observed as a dark shadow-like movement throughout the deciphered clip, and she disappeared by going upwards."

WHETHER NEVZAT BAHTİYAR WENT TO ARIF GÜRAN'S HOUSE ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT WAS ALSO EXAMINED

Regarding the court's request: "Considering the statements of the defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar at various stages, to examine whether he went to Arif Güran's house, whether he left the house, whether he went to his own house or barn carrying something, whether he entered his barn or house, and whether he later left his house or barn with a red car, and to specify the time frame if these or other issues are detected," the report included the following findings:

"Although it was aimed to provide specific answers to all questions asked by using all image enhancement techniques and watching each frame repeatedly, it was evaluated that it would not be possible to make a determination regarding whether something was carried to the house or barn, entries and exits to the house or barn, or whether he left his house or barn by car, because the part where the incident took place is quite far away and the structures such as the barn, house, and other houses and buildings are very close to each other."

DETERMINATION THAT WHITE AND RED COLORED VEHICLES MOVED ONE AFTER ANOTHER AROUND 15.40

Regarding the information requested by the court: "By specifically examining the places alleged to be the crime scene, whether a red and white colored car was detected, and whether the cars came together or moved one after another," the following conclusion was reached:

"It has been evaluated that the vehicle indicated by the red arrow, which is understood from the dark-colored image frames, could be red, and that the vehicle followed by the blue arrow, which is evaluated to be much lighter in color and white, came together; as the white vehicle approached, the vehicle evaluated to be red suddenly started moving according to the camera date and time stamp at 15.40, they moved one after another, they continued to follow each other and move in this way until the fork in the road at the village entrance until 15.42 according to the camera date and time stamp, the vehicle evaluated to be white went up from the fork in the road, and the vehicle evaluated to be red proceeded in the northeast direction from the lower road."

"SHADOWS AND LIGHTED AREAS WERE OBSERVED IN THE HOUSE AND BARN REGION"

Regarding the court's request: "To determine whether there was human activity in Arif Güran's house or barn, which are alleged to be the crime scene, whether there were people entering and leaving the house, barn, or gardens around the house, and whether any car came to these areas," the report included the following information:

"As stated in the 'decipher' clip, shadows and lighted areas were observed in the house and barn region, and the discretion regarding these observed movements is left to the authority."

"INTENSE LIGHT GLARE REFLECTED ON THE CAMERA FROM THE SIDE OF THE BARN DREW ATTENTION"

The expert report included the following additional points regarding the examined footage:

"This part contains remarkable findings that emerged as a result of watching and analyzing all frames of the camera recording after image enhancement and clarification work by the forensic image analysis experts of the National Criminal Bureau. 15 seconds after the shadow seen on the path at 15.18.50 (15.19.05), an intense light glare reflected on the camera from the side of the barn drew attention. Just before the examination of the vehicles following each other seen at 15.38, a car that made a 'U' turn on the village upper road and returned drew attention. Its evaluation and discretion are left to the authority."

The report stated that as a point to be noted, two black shadows were seen in front of the barn at 15.22, and a shadow was seen behind the barn at 15.25.

THE INCIDENT

The lifeless body of Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21 in Tavşantepe Neighborhood of the central Bağlar district, was found in Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8.

Within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 12 people, including uncle Salim, mother Yüksel, and brother Enes Güran, as well as their neighbor Nevzat Bahtiyar, were arrested out of 23 suspects detained.

The investigation carried out against Salim, Yüksel, and Enes Güran, as well as Nevzat Bahtiyar, was completed, and the indictment prepared against the 4 defendants for the crime of "intentional killing of a child in participation" with a request for aggravated life imprisonment was accepted by the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court on October 23.

The trial of the defendants began on November 7, and the hearing, which lasted 3 days and where it was decided that the defendants would remain in detention, was adjourned to December 26.
