Narrowly escaped bus crash by canceling ticket

Following the crash in Ankara of a passenger bus with license plate 04 AAV 951, belonging to the Öz Ağrı Seç Turizm company, which was traveling from Ağrı to İzmir with a driver whose identity has not yet been determined, 9 people lost their lives and 27 were injured.

Faruk Kaya, who lives in Ankara and had purchased a ticket for the bus that crashed to travel to Manisa at 02:00, canceled his ticket online after learning that the bus would be delayed by 2 hours. Kaya, who set off for Manisa after buying a ticket from another company, was shocked when he learned that the bus he was supposed to board had crashed. Kaya, who was the only person to purchase a ticket from Ankara for that bus and narrowly escaped the accident due to his cancellation, explained to İHA why he decided not to board the bus.

In his statement to the İHA reporter, Faruk Kaya stated that he had bought a ticket from the Öz Ağrı Seç Turizm company to visit his friend in Manisa, saying, "I had bought a ticket during the day for the 02:00 Manisa bus to meet my friend. Later, around 01:00, I arrived at AŞTİ. When I arrived, I couldn't find anyone at the company's own office. Then, a man I spoke to at other offices told me that the bus would arrive at 04:00. After hearing that, I canceled the ticket I had bought online and decided to go with another company. After my journey ended in the morning, my phone started ringing. They asked if the bus had crashed and what my condition was. I told them that I didn't board the bus, that I had canceled my ticket, and that I had narrowly escaped the accident at the last moment," he said.

Offering his condolences to the relatives of the citizens who lost their lives and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured, Kaya said, "I was going to go for a day and come back, just like I did now. Perhaps a normal person might be anxious or afraid to get on a bus again after surviving such an accident. To be honest, I didn't feel anything like that. I escaped the accident at the last moment. Some call it luck, I call it a mother's prayer," he stated.
