National Mourning row: 'Zionist apparatus...' Former Minister Varank and Democrat Party's Aksoy clash
As reactions continue over the declaration of a 1-day National Mourning following the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, former Minister of Industry and Technology and AKP MP Mustafa Varank and Democrat Party General Administrative Board member İlay Aksoy clashed on X.
Following the death of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh as a result of an assassination in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on July 31, 2024, a one-day national mourning was declared across Turkey. In this context, Turkish flags were lowered to half-mast in Kilis.
'IT IS A DISGRACE FOR TURKEY'
Democrat Party General Administrative Board member İlay Aksoy reacted to the decision on X, stating, "The person for whom mourning is requested has not lived in Palestine since 2006 but in Qatar, has a personal fortune of US$4 billion from an unknown source, and is known by the nickname 'Real Estate King' because his son acquired extraordinary property in Gaza. This mourning is a disgrace for Turkey!"
'ZIONIST APPARATUS'
AKP MP Mustafa Varank responded to Aksoy on X, saying, "There are so many Zionist apparatuses in our country. They are trying to smear the name of a hero who has been imprisoned in Israeli jails many times, has been exiled, has been subjected to assassination attempts 3 times before, has given dozens of martyrs from his family including his children and grandchildren, and became prime minister with the favor of his people in legitimate elections, even with lies and slanders."
Aksoy also noted the following in another post on X:
"It is truly strange how much you care about a person who was not with his own people while they were being killed and subjected to genocide. He is not even buried in the lands he supposedly fought for; is this really normal?"
