NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, speaking at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the capital Kyiv, stated that "Ukraine's place is in NATO."
The Secretary General also added, "It is not too late for Ukraine to prevail. More support is on the way."
Stoltenberg remarked, "The US spent months unable to agree on a package. European allies have also failed to provide ammunition at the scale we promised."
"MORE SUPPORT IS ON THE WAY"
Stoltenberg, expressing that every military aid that arrives late means Russia can advance on the front line, said, "However, it is not too late for Ukraine to prevail. More support is on the way."
Stoltenberg emphasized the importance of accelerating arms deliveries, stating, "We must realize that when we delay supply, it is a matter of life and death."
"WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT, UKRAINE CAN BECOME A NATO MEMBER"
Stoltenberg noted that allied countries have agreed to increase military support for Ukraine, adding that he welcomes the US aid package of over 60 billion dollars as well as new commitments from the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands, and that he "expects new announcements from other allied countries soon."
Stoltenberg stated that "Ukraine's place is in NATO," adding, "The work we are doing now puts you on an irreversible path toward NATO membership, so that when the time is right, Ukraine can become a NATO member immediately."
On the other hand, Stoltenberg noted that he does not expect the consensus required among allies for membership to be reached at the NATO Summit to be held in Washington, DC, in July, and said they would continue to work to bring Ukraine up to NATO standards.
