Natural gas nightmare continues in Gebze

When the distribution company PALGAZ failed to take precautions against the gas leaks that began in Gebze on October 18, an explosion occurred in a house in the Mevlana neighborhood on October 22. While the house became unusable, 1 person lost their life and 7 people were injured.

Despite the disaster, gas leaks continue in the district. Reports of leaks continue to come in from different points in the Mevlana neighborhood. Citizens are complaining about the irresponsibility of PALGAZ.

"THE SMELL IS STILL PRESENT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD"

Stating that he called 187 after smelling gas when he stepped out of his house, Ümit Köksal said, "I opened a report. However, they did not come. The smell became increasingly heavy. I called the fire department and they arrived immediately. The natural gas teams had come to another house; the fire department picked them up, brought them here, and they fixed the leak. The smell is still present in our neighborhood. This entire neighborhood needs to be inspected," he said.

"THEY COME TO ONE HOUSE, BUT DON'T CHECK THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR"

Sezai Durmaz, the owner of another house where a leak occurred, said, "We expressed our complaint regarding PALGAZ. There was a leak in my house, they came and fixed it, but then a leak started in another house. There is a problem in the neighborhood. We call PALGAZ, and they tell us to open a report. They don't have the luxury of telling us to open a report in this neighborhood. They need to come immediately. It is clear what we experienced a few days ago. Complaints are coming from every house. They look at one house, but don't check the house next door, saying 'Open a report'," he stated.
