Near-disaster in Kadıköy
Construction panels collapsed onto the sidewalk in Kadıköy, Istanbul.
Around 8:30 PM on Bağdat Avenue in the Suadiye neighborhood of Kadıköy, Istanbul, construction panels surrounding a 5-story building slated for demolition collapsed onto the sidewalk due to strong winds, according to reports. The fact that no one was walking on the sidewalk at that moment prevented a potential disaster.
PRECAUTIONS TAKEN IN THE AREA
Upon notification, police, fire, and municipal police teams were dispatched to the scene. The teams arriving at the location took precautions by cordoning off the area around the building and the collapsed panels. While there were no deaths or injuries in the incident, numerous scooters on the sidewalk were trapped under the fallen panels.

As a precautionary measure, one lane of the street next to the building was closed to traffic. Teams have begun work to remove the collapsed panels. The police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
