Nebati voted despite not being in the General Assembly
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly session was adjourned due to a lack of quorum. It was revealed that a vote was cast on behalf of AKP MP Nureddin Nebati, despite him not being present in Parliament.
In the TBMM General Assembly, a request for a quorum check was made prior to the motion regarding the Bitlis Municipality submitted by DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülüstan Kılıç Koçyiğit. The quorum could not be reached during the electronic check conducted under the direction of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Bekir Bozdağ.
DISCUSSIONS AND OBJECTIONS
During and after the quorum check, DEM Party's Koçyiğit and other MPs raised objections regarding the process. Bekir Bozdağ called for patience and understanding for the sake of the Parliament's functioning.
VOTING ISSUES AND ALLEGATIONS OF FRAUD
During the second quorum check and the roll call, it was brought to the agenda that some MPs were not present, leading to allegations of fraud. In particular, the reading of former Minister of Treasury and Finance Nureddin Nebati's name drew significant backlash.
PARLIAMENT ADJOURNED
Bekir Bozdağ announced that since a quorum could not be reached after two checks, the TBMM General Assembly was adjourned to reconvene on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 14:00.
