Nepotistic appointments by Ali Erbaş days before leaving office
It has been alleged that Ali Erbaş, President of Religious Affairs, whose term ends on September 17, has placed close relatives in various positions within the institution and its foundation.
It has been claimed that Diyanet President Ali Erbaş has placed family members in critical positions within the institution just days before handing over his seat.
According to a report by Sözcü, it is alleged that Hüda Erbaş, the daughter of Erbaş's older brother, has started working as an instructor in the Diyanet Foundation's Culture Unit, while her brother, Muhammet Erbaş, has moved into a "musahhih" (proofreader) position.
SALARY INCREASES AS WELL
Hüda Erbaş, the daughter of Ali Erbaş's older brother Cafer Erbaş, first worked as an instructor at a Diyanet Foundation school before moving into the Diyanet Foundation itself. It is known that Hüda Erbaş has also appeared on Diyanet TV broadcasts from time to time. Her brother, Muhammet Erbaş, who previously worked in a driver position, has been appointed to the role of proofreader. According to the allegations, both positions provide higher income in terms of salary.
ALLEGATIONS OF PRIVILEGE FOR SON-IN-LAW
It is alleged that Ali Erbaş made a controversial appointment not only for his nieces and nephews but also for his son-in-law. It is claimed that Erbaş's son-in-law, Muhammed Likoğlu, was appointed as the mufti of Istanbul's Beykoz district—a first-class district—despite not having sufficient service time.
PREVIOUSLY SUBJECT TO CONTROVERSY
Diyanet President Ali Erbaş has previously come to the agenda with similar practices. Allegations that he appointed his brother-in-law as a "Presidential Advisor," allowing him to retire from a high-ranking position without actually performing the duties of that role, had sparked long-standing public debate.
