The investigation continues into the death of 21-year-old Rojin Kabaiş, a first-year student at Yüzüncü Yıl University (YYÜ), who went missing in Van on September 27, 2024, and whose lifeless body was found on the shores of Lake Van 18 days later.
An expert examination regarding the HTS, cell tower, and camera records included in the expanded investigation file has been completed. The prepared report draws attention to four separate suspicious points that could affect the course of the investigation.
CORRESPONDENCE 13 MINUTES BEFORE DISAPPEARANCE EXAMINED
The first notable detail in the expert report was the messaging Rojin Kabaiş engaged in 13 minutes before she went missing.
In the examination conducted following the correspondence Kabaiş had with a person named Mehmet Çelik, whom she addressed as "teacher," it was determined that the phone belonging to this person received a signal from the same cell tower as Rojin.
However, it was determined that there are two different people named Mehmet Çelik in the investigation file. It was learned that one of these individuals is a former police officer, and the other works in the university's administrative unit.
It has not yet been clarified with which Mehmet Çelik the correspondence in question took place.
WHAT WAS THE HEAVY OBJECT CARRIED INTO THE VILLAGE HOUSE BEING INVESTIGATED
The second important point included in the report was the suspicious activity that took place in Bardakçı village on the evening Rojin Kabaiş went missing.

In the evaluations regarding the footage that entered the investigation file, attention was drawn to the allegation that a heavy object was dragged from a white vehicle and carried into a village house.
Abdurrahman Karabulut, one of the lawyers for the Kabaiş family, made the following assessment regarding the footage:
“We have determined that a group of three people, consisting of two men and one woman, dragged a heavy object from inside a white vehicle and placed it inside the house.”

PRIVATE SECURITY GUARD'S MOVEMENTS ALSO IN THE REPORT
The third suspicious point examined in the expert report was the movements of the private security guard working in the area where Rojin Kabaiş's mobile phone was found.
Lawyer Abdurrahman Karabulut made the following statements regarding the private security guard's behavior:
"The situation gained a suspicious dimension for us because a male individual was approaching from ahead on the morning after the night Rojin went missing—that is, on the beach where the phone was found—and he hid behind the bushes for 48 seconds."

ROOMMATE'S STATEMENT DID NOT MATCH RECORDS
The fourth important detail in the report was the statement of the roommate with whom Rojin Kabaiş stayed in the dormitory.
The roommate had stated that Rojin was in her room around 22:30. However, the examination revealed that the cell tower, GPS, and turnstile records did not match this statement.
NEW INVESTIGATION REQUEST FROM LAWYERS ON 30 TOPICS
The lawyers for the Kabaiş family submitted their new requests regarding the investigation file to the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office at the beginning of September.
Lawyer Abdurrahman Karabulut stated that they had requested an investigation into approximately 30 separate issues within the scope of the file and said the following:
"We can say for now that an effective investigation is being conducted. In this context, we have made applications on approximately 30 issues since July 10. All of them were accepted, except for 2 or 3."
