AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had announced that he had tasked 10 of his 'legal expert friends' with the work on a new constitution.

According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi, Erdoğan will chair the 10-person commission. It has been learned that in meetings where Erdoğan is not present, the process will be conducted through consultation, and Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz or AKP Head of Political and Legal Affairs Hayati Yazıcı will preside.

During the preparation process of the constitution, a working group consisting of expert jurists and constitutional law professors will be formed.

The group of academics is expected to take an active role in matters such as simplifying the technical language, increasing social consensus, and preparing a text that is compatible with international law.

The work of the commission, which will include Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, AKP Deputy Chairmen Efkan Âlâ and Mustafa Elitaş, AKP Deputy Chairmen Hayati Yazıcı, Ali İhsan Yavuz, and Ömer Çelik, AKP Parliamentary Group Chairman Abdullah Güler, and Parliamentary Group Deputy Chairmen Özlem Zengin, Muhammed Emin Akbaşoğlu, and Bahadır Yenişehirlioğlu, will accelerate after the Eid al-Adha holiday.
