New dean of the Military Academy turns out to be an AKP member

It has emerged that Osman Köse, who was recently appointed as the new dean of the Military Academy under the National Defense University, was a parliamentary candidate nominee for the AKP in the 2015 general elections. While Dean Köse's proximity to certain "Islamist" circles has drawn attention, his comments regarding the PKK terrorist organization and the Solution Process reveal significant contradictions.

It has been learned that Prof. Dr. Osman Köse, who was appointed as the new dean of the National Defense University (MSÜ) Military Academy—established following the July 15, 2016, coup attempt by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ)—was on the list as an AKP parliamentary candidate nominee from Gümüşhane province in the general elections held on November 1, 2015.

Furthermore, Köse has had past contacts with AKP figures such as Yusuf Tekin, Orhan Kırcalı, and Halil Özşavlı.

WHAT HAS HE DONE?

Prof. Dr. Osman Köse served as Vice President of the Police Academy, Dean of the Faculty of Security Sciences, Director of the Police Chiefs Training Center (PAEM), and Director of the Institute of Security Sciences between 2014 and 2021.

After serving as the Head of the Security Studies Department at the National Defense University Alparslan Defense Sciences and National Security Institute in 2021, he was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Security Sciences at the Gendarmerie and Coast Guard Academy in 2023.

WRITING FOR DİRİLİŞ POSTASI

The fact that Köse, who was appointed dean of the Military Academy, wrote for Diriliş Postası is a separate issue. Köse having written for a publication that is Islamist and targets the Republican Revolutions between 2019 and 2021 presents a contradiction given the positions and ranks he held at that time.

On the other hand, Köse had made a post celebrating the 113th anniversary of the Turkish Air Force with the poem "Letter to Mehmed from the Dungeon" by Necip Fazıl Kısakürek.

COMMEMORATED ISLAMIST NURETTİN TOPÇU

Known for commemorating Islamist figures, Köse shared a post in 2022 while praying at the grave of Nurettin Topçu.

The author Nurettin Topçu, with his "national school" thesis as an alternative to secular education, criticized the alphabet revolution and argued that Ottoman Turkish had been stabbed.

In fact, in 2016, the Ministry of National Education added Nurettin Topçu's book titled "The Education Issue in Turkey" to the summer seminars for teachers, a figure known for his thoughts against secular education and Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions.

UKRAINE SYMPATHY

Another striking element is Köse's admiration for Zelensky during the Russia-Ukraine War.

Prof. Dr. Köse, whose academic areas of expertise include Turkish-Russian relations, drew attention with his praise-filled posts regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the Russia-Ukraine War process, due to the difference between his academic identity and the stance he displayed.

CHANGING VIEWS ON THE SOLUTION PROCESS

The difference between the harsh expressions used in the past by Military Academy Dean Prof. Dr. Osman Köse regarding the PKK terrorist organization and the solution process, and his current approach, constitutes another important point of the story.

In past years, while Köse used expressions about the PKK such as "May God damn these traitors and their supporters" and "The punishment for the PKK and the traitors among us who support it will certainly be given," he targeted the main opposition party of the time, the CHP, saying, "If the main opposition leader says he visited the PKK and DHKP-C, one needs to stop and think, what is going on here..."

Köse, who adopted a very strict stance on counter-terrorism and criticized the main opposition party of the time, writes his positive comments about the process in an article titled "The Liquidation of the PKK" which he penned in 2025:

"Whatever happens, the point reached in the fight against terrorism is a successful stage for Turkey and is of great importance... Although there may be difficulties in this process reaching full success and in the goal of a Turkey without terrorism, light is now visible on the horizon. In other words, the bright end of the tunnel is near."

In the same article, Köse uses the words that the "Turkey without terrorism" process has been "adopted by state units" and "has generally found positive echoes in the eyes of the nation."
