New deputies to join CHP: 2 confirmed

The normalization/softening period that began between the government and the opposition after the March 31 Local Elections has been shelved following the appointment of trustees and investigations targeting opposition municipalities.

It has been learned that the arrest of Victory Party leader Ümit Özdağ and, most recently, the investigations launched against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu have reignited discussions about unity within the opposition front.

According to a report by Ceren Bayar from Gazete Duvar, CHP officials pointed out the necessity for the opposition, which appeared fragmented after the May 14-28, 2023 general elections, to come together. Reminding that 50+1 percent of the votes are required to defeat the government in the current system, the officials stated that the entire opposition must act together to achieve this. It was also noted that while ensuring this unity, a method similar to the Six-Party Table experienced in 2023 should be avoided.

CHP officials stated that certain contacts have begun with all opposition parties, including the IYI Party, which distanced itself from the CHP after the general elections, and that efforts will be made to increase these contacts.

DOORS ARE NOT CLOSED TO İNCE

The claim that Muharrem İnce, who left the CHP to found the Homeland Party (Memleket Partisi), is on the path to returning to the CHP has been confirmed by party sources. Stating that some meetings have been held with İnce, the sources said that the CHP's doors are not closed to him and that his situation will become clear in the coming days.

CHP officials indicated that if the negotiations yield positive results, İnce could dissolve his party and join the CHP along with his organization.

NEW ADDITIONS TO CHP, TWO MPS CONFIRMED

On the other hand, it was also stated that new additions to the CHP at the parliamentary level are expected. The joining of the CHP by deputies Cemal Enginyurt and Salih Uzun, who resigned from the Democrat Party, has been almost finalized.

In the lobbies, there is also talk of the possibility that Burak Dalgın, who resigned from the DEVA Party, will join the CHP.
